Pierre Durot Sports Hall

Located in Wallers-Arenberg, southeast of Lille, the new Pierre Durot sports hall provides an educational and social response within the city’s proactive policy. Sport is a powerful tool for integration, education, and social diversity, promoting values of fraternity and respect.

LANDSCAPE CONCEPT

The existing vegetation on the site has been preserved as much as possible, with particular attention given to the remarkable willow at the site entrance. The planting design is organized into vegetation palettes, intended to create a self-sustaining natural ecosystem using native species from the Lille region, minimizing maintenance requirements (no irrigation, no weeding, minimal pruning, etc.).

The project emphasizes plant palettes with foliage and flowers that change throughout the four seasons. Plants were selected for their seasonal color variations and, due to their high aesthetic value, species were chosen that are compatible with the site’s water management requirements. Plantings are carried out according to each species’ needs to ensure growth without irrigation and with limited maintenance.

The tree layer consists of medium-sized standard trees, with a height of 10 to 15 meters (second-height standards). The parking areas are bordered by hedges of privet, hornbeam, or beech, trimmed to a height of 1.2 meters.
