Mobility Hub Les Mureaux

The multimodal transport hub occupies a strategic position in the Yvelines, within the Grand Paris Seine & Oise (GPS&O) metropolitan community. Located on the Paris–Normandy railway line, it serves as a major gateway to the city and a mobility node set to accommodate growing flows linked to the expansion of transport services and the gradual transformation of the station district. In this context, the project aims to create a more legible, welcoming, and functional hub, capable of meeting current needs while anticipating future uses.

The intervention on public spaces is guided by a dual objective: to secure and streamline transfers between different modes of transport, and to requalify the station district as a true urban space. The site is currently heavily constrained by major road infrastructures—particularly the RD43 and through-traffic related to crossing the Seine—generating significant traffic at the very heart of the hub. Maintaining an efficient road axis remains necessary, but the project proposes a complete redesign of its surroundings to rebalance the sharing of public space.

Les Mureaux hub is conceived as a key link in GPS&O’s active mobility policy. Through surface design, spatial hierarchy, and continuity of pathways, the project strengthens pedestrian and bicycle connections along the RD43 and toward the station forecourts. Bicycle routes are rationalized, secured, and made legible, in alignment with existing and future itineraries. The city entrance is a critical point: the roundabout is resized to include a continuous bicycle lane, ensuring smooth circulation and cyclist safety, while freeing space for pedestrians and enabling a landscaped requalification of the edges.

Conceived as a dual-faced hub, the project deploys cycle paths and parking on each forecourt, positioned as close as possible to station entrances. Dedicated routes prevent conflicts and naturally direct cyclists toward two secure bike stations, offering daily parking and services.

andscape design plays a central role as an interface and calming element. Tree alignments, new plantings, permeable surfaces, and vegetated installations structure the public space, guide flows, and create sequences of comfort. Beyond aesthetics, these measures help mitigate urban heat island effects, filter traffic-related nuisances, and support more natural stormwater management. The hub thus becomes a transitional space between infrastructure and inhabited city: a legible, robust, and welcoming public space where mobility is integrated into a reimagined urban environment.

As the lead landscape designer, ESPACE LIBRE brings the ambition of a transport hub that is both a high-performance mobility tool and a landscape urban project: a site capable of absorbing growth in use while offering, from today, a calm, green, and generous station forecourt for all residents of Les Mureaux.
